About Molly DePrekel, MA, LP

Molly DePrekel MA LP (she, her, hers) is a psychologist in private practice both at Cairns Psychological Services located at The Collaborative in Eden Prairie and Hold Your Horses. She provides therapy for individuals and families as well as consultation for other professionals in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Animal Assisted Interventions and Nature Based Healing.


Ms. DePrekel received her MA degree in counseling and psychological services from St. Mary’s College (Minneapolis) and a BS degree in Animal Husbandry from Michigan State University (East Lansing) She holds a certificate in SensorimotorPsychotherapy for the treatment of trauma and developmental wounds, and a certificate in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) AcceleratedResolution Therapy (ART), Adaptive Internal Relational Network (AIR Network) and Yoga. She is passionate about bringing authentic restorative practices to others to promote post-traumatic growth, prevent burnout and share the healing power of nature.


Molly’s current work includes individual therapy, group therapy, wellness workshops, and consulting. Her consulting work for clinicians is varied and may include animal assisted interventions and she is offering consultation for the institute for Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. She is passionate about bringing authentic restorative practices to others to promote post-traumatic growth, prevent burnout and share the healing power of nature. Molly offers retreats and workshops in Authentic Restoration (amidstthetrees.com). She is on faculty at the University of Denver school of Social Work Institute for Human Animal Connections teaching in the Animals and Human Health Certificate program.


An active volunteer and consultant in the field of animal-assisted therapy, Molly is an EPONA Equestrian Services approved instructor and served as past President of the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association (EFMHA), Co-Chair and Co-Founder of the Certified Board of Equine Interaction Professionals (CBEIP,cbeip.org.), she is a past committee member for the Horses and Humans Research Foundation and remains actively engaged in best practices and credentialing of animal assisted therapy in mental health services. She has taught and facilitated workshops/training worldwide.


Molly has co-authored five manuals on animal assisted therapy and education and is a contributing author to “Harnessing the Power of Equine Assisted Counseling: Adding Animal Assisted Therapy to Your Practice”. An avid continuous learner and volunteer, she volunteers for numerous national organizations supporting animal assisted therapy and human/animal bonds, and was a Prouty Project STRETCH participant, engaging in a Galapagos Environmental Service Project and World Team Sports Adventure Team Challenge.


She taught her Developing Profound Conversations at the University of Minnesota and utilizes animal assisted therapy and has practiced in hospitals, educational settings, mental health facilities, correctional sites, and outreach centers nationwide for thirty-three years. She is recognized for her work with adolescents, women, families and internationally facilitated workshops and trainings.


Molly has provided services to tribal members and Rotta Love Rescue. She has participated in Prouty Stretch Galapagos Environmental Service Project and World Team Sports Adventure Challenge.

 

Besides walking her retired therapy dog, Willow, you can often find Molly with her Morgan horse, Whisper.
